For Researchers & Clinicians
Microb-AI-ome brings together clinical expertise, microbiome research and artificial intelligence to support privacy-preserving collaboration in colorectal cancer research.
From federated data to clinical insight
The project develops tools and workflows that allow researchers and clinicians to collaborate across institutions while keeping sensitive patient data protected locally.
Microbiome
Gut microbiome data linked to CRC risk research
Data
Federated database network across clinical sites
AI
Privacy-preserving model development and testing
Clinical use
Future support for CRC stratification workflows
Microb-AI-ome addresses one of the major challenges in contemporary biomedical research: how to combine expertise and data across institutions while respecting stringent privacy, ethical and regulatory requirements. Rather than relying on centralised databases, the project develops a federated infrastructure that allows knowledge to be shared while sensitive patient data remain under local control.
Key project components
Microb-AI-Net
Microb-AI-Net is the project’s federated database network, designed to enable secure collaboration between clinical and research centres without centralising sensitive patient data.
CRC Profiler apps
The project develops federated CRC Profiler apps covering key steps of the patient stratification workflow, from data processing to AI model learning and application.
CRC Stratifier
The CRC Stratifier will combine selected workflows into a clinical software environment designed to support colorectal cancer risk assessment and stratification.
Privacy-preserving research
The federated approach allows research collaboration while ensuring that data remain under the control of the institutions where they were collected.
Together, these components form an integrated ecosystem that connects data collection, secure infrastructure, artificial intelligence development and clinical validation. The project's objective is not only to develop new computational tools, but also to evaluate their practical relevance in real-world screening and research settings.
Supporting research and clinical practice
Microb-AI-ome aims to contribute to both scientific research and future clinical implementation through responsible AI development, validation and stakeholder engagement.
Cross-centre collaboration
Working across institutions without moving sensitive data.
Reproducibility
Supporting transparent and robust scientific methods.
Validation
Testing tools against clinical screening outcomes.
Guidelines
Generating evidence that may support future clinical guidance.
Training Plan for Clinical Users of the CRC Stratifier
Public deliverable D4.1 presents the training plan for future clinical users of the CRC Stratifier and is particularly relevant for clinicians and research teams interested in the project’s validation and implementation pathway.
